FAQ
Is SPINDRIFT free? Do I have to install anything?
Free, in the browser, nothing to install, no download and no account. Open
spindrift.kluthstudios.com, press Enter,
and you are playing.
Is my high score saved?
Yes. The HI score persists in your browser between sessions. It lives on that browser and device (there are no accounts to sync it elsewhere), and clearing your site data resets it. Think of that as a factory reset for your ego.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Touch is supported. Rotating, thrusting, and firing all work with two thumbs, so the full game is playable on a phone. A keyboard is lovely, but it is not required.
What does G do?
It toggles the glow effect, the soft bloom around the white vector lines. It is purely cosmetic, and handy on slower machines: switching the glow off is the game's one graphics setting and its one performance lever.
Is this just Asteroids?
It is a loving vector-arcade homage, written as original code. The vocabulary is shared (rocks that split, saucers, hyperspace, one ship against the dark) because that vocabulary is the genre. The implementation, tuning, and every line of code are Spindrift's own. More on the lineage at the Spindrift project page.
Why can't I slow down?
By design: thrust adds speed, and nothing removes it except thrusting the other way. There are no brakes. Gameplay explains the drift physics, and Tips explains how to stop fighting them.
How do I pause or mute it?
P pauses, M mutes. Both are far kinder than Shift, which is hyperspace and
will absolutely not pause the game.
What browsers does it need?
Any current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari, on desktop or mobile. It is white lines on a black screen, so it runs happily almost anywhere.
What does "experimental" mean?
Spindrift is fully playable but still evolving under the Kluth Studios banner. Tuning, scoring, and features may shift between visits. Milestones are recorded on the changelog.
